Water Restrictions

The Town of Sharon relies solely on local groundwater aquifers for its drinking water, irrigation, and firefighting capabilities.

This means that we need to be especially careful with lawn irrigation during the warmer months when water use tends to increase by about 30% at the same time that rainfall slows down.

Outdoor water use tends to increase by about 30% in the warmer months.

Always follow outdoor water restrictions to ensure that there is enough water in town for drinking, public health, and firefighting.

During times of drought (and always) we should be mindful of our water supply and do our part to conserve whenever we can.

Sharon takes pride in proactively conserving water during warmer months by implementing mandatory outdoor water restrictions from May 1-Oct. 1.

Lawn sprinklers, either underground or hose fed, must adhere to the following schedule:

  • Odd numbered homes: Mon. & Thurs.—6 pm to 8 pm only
  • Even numbered homes: Tues. & Fri.—6 pm to 8 pm only

Exemptions to this policy may be granted for newly installed lawns for up to 14 days.
Residents may use one hand-held hose, fitted with a spray nozzle, without restriction.

Sharon residents that violate the water ban will be cited and subject to a surcharge on their next water bill. Violations will carry forward for three years.

  • 1st offense – Warning
  • 2nd offense – $50.00
  • 3rd offense – $100.00
  • 4th offense and subsequent offenses – $300.00
